Sudanese Foreign Minister: Sudan has no objection to the establishment of Russia’s naval base

05.03.2024, Khartum.

The Sudanese authorities have no objections to establishing a Russian Navy base on Sudanese territory, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Sadiq Ali told RIA Novosti on March 5.

“We have no objections in principle to the agreements reached under the previous government,” Ali said.

He emphasized that compliance with the agreements is an obligation of the state.

In November 2020, it became known that Russia and Sudan reached an agreement on establishing a logistics service point for the Russian Navy on the territory of Sudan.

The agreement envisages the use of the station for the repair of Russian warships, replenishment of their supplies, and rest of crew members. The maximum number of personnel of the station is 300 people. No more than four ships of the Russian Navy are allowed to be stationed there at any one time.

The country’s parliament has not yet ratified the agreement on the construction of the Russian Navy base in Sudan. It is expected to be considered after the parliamentary elections to be held this year.
