CAR President praises cooperation with Russia in training new recruits

19.04.2024, Bangui.

Russian instructors have trained more than ten thousand Central African Republic (CAR) soldiers, CAR President Faustin-Arkange Touadera told RTVI on April 19.

Touadera spoke about the specificity of training of new recruits of the CAR armed forces by Russian instructors, mentioning that after training they immediately go to practice, gaining invaluable experience in defense of the country.

He noted that Russian instructors are directly involved in practicing with other CAR allies Rwandans and MINUSCA (UN peacekeeping mission).

“We very much appreciate this cooperation, and we do not expect to stop here,” the CAR president said.

He noted that a few years ago the CAR was in a dire state in terms of security. The Central African Republic was occupied up to 80%, and thanks to cooperation with the Russian Federation and Russian instructors, it was possible to regain control of almost 95% of the country.

According to Touadera, a Russian military base could strengthen the capacity to defend the country’s territory and armed forces. A military base could be located in the eastern region of CAR, the CAR president suggested.
