The final test of the nuclear-powered Burevestnik intercontinental cruise missile has been conducted successfully, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 5 during a speech at the Valdai International Discussion Club.

“The latest test of the Burevestnik has been conducted successfully,” he said, specifying that it is a nuclear-powered global-range cruise missile.

The leader of the state emphasized that work on modern types of strategic weapons, which was mentioned several years ago, is almost complete.

The development of new types of strategic weapons, designed to ensure the balance in the world for decades ahead, was announced in the spring of 2018 in the President’s address to the Federal Assembly. The Burevestnik missile, capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and possessing virtually unlimited range and stealth, belongs to such weapons systems.

Along with the Burevestnik, the Sarmat strategic missiles, designed to replace the Voevoda – main intercontinental land-based missiles on combat duty and carrying the burden of ensuring strategic nuclear balance – as well as the Poseidon strategic submarine complex, were also named.
