Iran is a special, unique and inimitable state in the Islamic world, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on April 19 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The Ottoman Empire, for example, existed for centuries; it had huge conquests and it has traditions, noted the political scientist. And these traditions existed for a relatively long time. In its heyday, the Arab caliphate definitely was enlightened and highly intellectual, and managed to adopt Greek discoveries, added Kurginyan.
“And this will all be true, but Iran is truly an ancient state, a heartland state, that has deep historic roots and ability to remain a self-sustaining state in the Islamic world, there are no others like it,” said the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
Kurginyan drew attention to the thousand-year history of Iran, with its ups and downs, “with the successful struggle against Greek civilization and the defeat from Alexander the Great, and inclusion in the revolutionary world, and departure from it, and again – such figures as Shah Abbass and others, and the slow acceptance of their Islam.”
At the same time, the political scientist emphasized the peculiarity of Iranian Islam, as well as Iran’s constant desire to remain a Persian state.
Officially, after the revolution in Iran, everything that happened prior to it was largely relegated to the background, noted Kurginyan. However, according to the political scientist, in fact, this relegation of history and traditions to the background has never truly happened and cannot happen.
“Persians remain Persians, they are deeply rooted in their own history, in their state achievements; in their core, they are deeply close to their state. And only afterwards they view themselves as Shiites; therefore, in terms of Islam – they are a minority… Which is very problematic for the majority, just as the Islamic internationalism is problematic to the rest, in this sense,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained the specifics of Iran.
