Russian Navy will be strengthened by four submarines in 2024

The Russian Navy’s submarine forces will be replenished with four new submarines in 2024, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on March 19 at an extended meeting of the board of the Russian Defense Ministry, the department’s press service informs.

According to Sergey Shoigu, two of the four new submarines are nuclear-powered – Prince Pozharsky and Arkhangelsk. The last diesel boat Yakutsk for the Pacific Fleet and the second serial submarine of the Lada project will also be launched.

At an extended meeting of the Defense Ministry board, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry announced plans to strengthen the Russian submarine fleet. According to him, one of the priority tasks for the Russian Navy in 2024 will be the inclusion of a nuclear-powered submarine cruiser of the Borei-A project, the Prince Pozharsky and three more submarines into its composition

March 19 is the Day of the submarine sailor of the Russian Navy. It was established on March 19, 1906 in accordance with the decree of Emperor Nicholas II. Submarines were separated into a separate class. In the same year, the State Council approved a regulation on creating a submarine squadron.
