Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the Russian soldiers on the liberation of Avdeevka, the Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on February 17.
He noted that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu informed Putin in the Kremlin about the liberation of Avdiivka.
“The president congratulated our military and soldiers on such an important victory, on such a success,” Peskov said.
Avdeevka is a large suburb of Donetsk, located several kilometers northwest of the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The Ukrainian armed units occupied it at the very beginning of the confrontation in Donbass.
During the years of occupation, Avdeevka was turned into the most fortified area of the Ukrainian armed units.
The town was the main place from where the Ukrainian armed units shelled Donetsk and nearby Gorlovka. MLRS shells fired from there reached the downtowns of these cities.
