CAR army, backed by Russians, repulses militant attack on Kabo town

The Central African Republic’s army, with the support of Russian instructors, repulsed an attack by Chadian militants on the town of Kabo, Ndjoni Sango reported on January 8.

The armed forces of the Central African Republic, supported by Russian instructors, successfully repulsed an attack by several groups of armed militants who invaded the country from Chad.

In the early morning of January 8, rebels attempted to seize Kabo in the northern Central African Republic but were repulsed by the country’s armed forces.

During the fighting, 17 rebels were killed, more than 20 wounded and three captured. Their commanders, Colonel Bouba and Captain Amat, were identified among the rebels killed.

Three grenade launchers and 12 automatic rifles with ammunition were seized.

Four soldiers of the CAR army were killed, two wounded. However, civilian casualties were avoided. Four local residents were slightly injured.

The Telegram channel of the Commonwealth of Officers for International Security (COIS) noted the coordinated work of the CAR army and Russian instructors.

According to President Faustin-Arkange Touadera, external forces are not abandoning their attempts to destabilize the situation in the CAR by sponsoring gangs.
