Battalion of Ukrainian POWs participate in first combat against Ukrainian armed units

28.12.2023, Donetsk.

Soldiers of the Bogdan Khmelnitsky volunteer battalion, consisting of Ukrainian POWs captured in Russia’s special military, which belongs to the operational and combat tactical unit Kaskad, took part in the first combat against the Ukrainian armed units, a serviceman from the unit Kirill Spassky told RIA Novosti on December 28.

He emphasized that everyone behaved with dignity. The soldiers came to the specified position and only had time to entrench when enemy drones flew in. Spassky had a counter-drone gun and managed to disable two of them.

“I landed two ‘birds,’ as a result mortar fire began, they used mortar shells and automatic grenade launchers – it was no longer possible to use the counter-drone gun, and I as commander gave the order to withdraw,” the serviceman said.

Spassky was wounded in the leg – the mine shank had torn the soft tissue above the knee and nicked an artery. He helped himself, found out that all the others were unharmed, and then the unit returned back to the lines.

“On the right, on the left, too, the flanks covered us. The guys got a foothold, rotation came up, we were changed,” Spassky specified.

The arrival of the battalion named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky to the front became known on November 22. The fighters included in it stated that they consciously moved to the side of Russia and intended to liberate Donbass.
