Russian SVR head urges CIS countries to join forces to respond to the West

14.12.2023, Minsk.

The member-countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) should join efforts to counter destructive actions of the West, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin said on December 14, at the 19th meeting of heads of security agencies and intelligence services of the CIS countries.

Naryshkin noted that the West continues to blatantly interfere in the affairs of the CIS countries, despite the failures in its destructive activities in the post-Soviet space. According to him, to counter this, it is not enough only to increase the internal consolidation of societies separately in each CIS member state.

“It is no less important to unite and strengthen foreign policy coordination between our states, including in the sphere of responding to destructive Western activity towards our countries and the Commonwealth as a whole,” Naryshkin said.

The SVR head that the West’s strategy in the CIS space is described by the formula “divide and conquer.” The answer to such a destructive strategy can only be a diametrically opposite one, which can be called as “unite and lead.”
