A military agreement between Sweden and the United States will be signed by the end of November, SVT Nyheter wrote on November 27.
According to preliminary reports, the so-called Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) may be signed by the Swedish government on November 30.
According to the DCA, Sweden will provide its military bases for US troops. In addition, the US military will be able to store weapons on Swedish territory. These measures are taken to facilitate the actions of the US Army in case of war.
Sweden has applied to join NATO. However, Turkey has so far blocked this process because of Stockholm’s refusal to expel Kurdish fighters. At the same time, the Swedish Defense Ministry has already noted that joining NATO is necessary for the rapid transit of military equipment and personnel to the Baltic States, if war with Russia breaks out.
This issue will be resolved by signing a bilateral agreement allowing the rapid transfer of US troops and equipment.
