German opposition: supplying shells to Kiev has led to shortages in the Bundeswehr

The German Armed Forces are facing an extreme shortage of ammunition due to large-scale supplies of shells to Ukraine, said Johan Wadeful, vice chairman of the CDU/CSU opposition faction in the Bundestag, the DPA news agency reported on November 26.

Wadeful is an expert on defense issues. According to the politician, the correct supply of ammunition to Ukraine “has now turned into a serious shortage in the Bundeswehr.”

The main units will be able to hold out in combat for two days at most. And this is, in general, a disastrous result,” Wadeful stated.

The politician noted that the transformation of the Bundeswehr into a combat-ready force is making little progress. He stressed that “everything has stalled” in the early stages and blamed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for this delay.

I see loud statements, but few real measures that contribute to strengthening military capabilities, as the defense minister himself has sworn to do,” Wadeful said.

According to the politician, there are orders to replenish the stockpiles, but so far almost nothing has been delivered to the Armed Forces. According to Wadeful, after Russia launched a special denazification operation, Germany needs many times more shells than it had.

In the current security policy situation, it is unacceptable that compensation is not provided,” the politician emphasized.
