A scandal erupted in Spain over orphans taken from the Donetsk region

28.07.2022, Madrid.

On July 28, the Spanish prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the treatment of orphans taken from the Donetsk region, the Spanish newspaper El Norte de Castilla reported.

87 orphanage residents aged 7 to 17 were evacuated from the Donetsk region and brought to the city of Salamanca in western Spain. Many of the children are disabled.

They were placed in a religious school building under the guardianship of the Madrina Foundation.

However, foundation volunteers began to report “unhealthy” conditions for the children here, reporting shortcomings and lack of transparency in the management of funds received by the foundation. Most of the educators have left the center.

The Spanish prosecutor’s office, upon receiving the complaints, transferred guardianship of the children to others.

The publication notes that this Madrina Foundation has managed to take about 1,600 people from Ukraine and Donbass since the beginning of the hostilities.
