Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu’s proposal to transfer arms to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, which he voiced at the Security Council meeting, was supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the meeting of the Security Council on March 11.
At the meeting, Shoigu suggested that trophy Western weaponry that had fallen into the hands of the Russian military be handed over to the DPR and LPR. “As for the supply of weapons, especially Western-made ones that have fallen into the hands of the Russian army, of course, I support the possibility of transferring them to the military units of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics,” responded the head of the Russian Federation.
In addition, the Minister of Defense suggested that air defense equipment, including MANPADs, should be transferred to the republics.
