Russian Foreign Minister: Kiev’s crimes justified by West threw Ukraine into tragedy

25.02.2022, Moscow.

The crimes of the Kiev regime, which the West has been consistently blanching out, threw Ukraine into a tragedy, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on February 25 at a meeting with Foreign Minister of the LPR Vladislav Deynego and First Deputy Foreign Minister of the DPR Sergey Peresada.

Lavrov indicated that over this period, the people in the DPR and the LPR suffered abuse and shelling by the Kiev regime, which chose the path of blatant Russophobia and genocide.

“All these years, our Western colleagues consistently whitewashed the Ukrainian regime, turning blind eye to the killing of women, children, and elderly people and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and tacitly encouraging the triumphant establishment of neo-Nazism and Russophobia, which threw the country into a tragedy,” Lavrov said.

According to Lavrov, the West offered full support to the sabotage of the Minsk agreements by Kiev.

Since February 17, the Ukrainian military dramatically intensified the shelling of the Donbass republics, damaging civilian infrastructure and killing civilians.

On February 21, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, after an urgent meeting on Ukraine of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, announced the recognition of the DPR and the LPR from Ukraine.

On February 22, treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the DPR and the LPR were submitted to the State Duma for ratification. They stipulated that guarding of borders would be ensured by joint efforts of the sides.

Nevertheless, in the evening of February 23, the Ukrainian army attempted an offensive in the town of Nikolayevka in the LPR. Having achieved an intermediate success after they seized two hills, the attackers failed to consolidate there, and they were forced out by the LPR army losing 9 servicemen dead.

On February 23, the leaders of the DPR and the LPR, Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, addressed President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a request to help repulse the act of Ukrainian aggression in order to prevent casualties among civilians and humanitarian catastrophe.

In an urgent address to the Russian citizens in the early hours of February 24, Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a special military operation aimed at demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine with the main goal of defending the people of Donbass, who have been suffering abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years. According to Putin, the Kiev authorities would be responsible for any bloodshed.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stresses that the strikes use high-precision weapons, and they target military infrastructure, anti-aircraft defense systems, airbases and air force of Ukraine, and that no strikes are made against the Ukrainian cities, so the civilian population is not under threat.
