President of Syria Bashar al-Assad speaking to President of Russia Vladimir Putin expressed resolute support to Russia’s special military operation to defend the civilian population of the Donbass republics, the Kremlin press service reported on February 25.
“The president of Syria expressed resolute support to Russia’s special military operation to defend the civilian population of the Donbass republics, and he condemned USA’s and NATO’s destabilizing policy, which previously resulted in serious degradation of situation in Middle East,” the statement says.
Vladimir Putin thanked Bashar al-Assad for his commitment, and he expressed his assessments of further scenarios in the context of the solutions that Russia has adopted and is now implementing.
Also, the leaders discussed the issues of resolution in Syria, including the progress of the political process under the Astana format to ensure sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria.
The leaders also discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation, first of all in trade and economy.
On February 24, President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a special military operation to defend the people of Donbass and to ensure demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. The Russian leader stressed that this would not be military occupation of Ukraine. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian army does not attack peaceful cities.
