Russian Foreign Ministry: London’s sanction threats will only worsen escalation

25.02.2022, Moscow.

London’s threats of further anti-Russian sanctions are useless and senseless, according to a statement the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry made on February 25.

The Ministry noted that First Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Vladimir Titov and Minister of State for Europe and North America James Cleverly had a phone talk.

“It was stressed that we take into account Britain’s constant threats of further sanctions, but they are senseless and useless in terms of the claimed goal, confining the development of Russia. They will lead to nothing but another spiral of escalation,” the statement says.

Also, according to the Russian side, rhetoric that encourages Kiev’s destructive actions and exacerbates the situation cannot be tolerated.

Previously, in the context of intensified shelling of Donbass by Kiev, the leaders of the DPR and the LPR requested Russia’s assistance. On February 24, President of Russia Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a military operation aimed at the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.

In its turn, Kiev cut off diplomatic relations with Russia, and President Vladimir Zelensky ordered nation-wide mobilization within 90 days.
