The Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office proposed establishing an inter-departmental commission to assess the material damage inflicted by the Nazi occupants during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of Belarus, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on August 17.
The Prosecutor General’s Office submitted this initiative to the Council of Ministers of Belarus. The overall damage is estimated to amount to $500 billion.
“The results of the inter-departmental commission are planned to be used as legal remedies to protect property interests and compensate the damage,” the published statement says.
A number of investigations by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus have revealed facts of mass murder of residents of the country, enslaving, and building concentration camps. Also, the occupants destroyed many industrial and agricultural facilities. Historical and cultural values were widely destroyed or removed abroad.
