The Russian government will ensure the further development of cooperation with the DPRK in all areas, stated Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on September 7 during the opening ceremony of the road bridge across the Tumannaya River, which was held via video link.

“We value the sincere and trust-based dialogue between our leaders – President of Russia Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong-un,” said the head of government, addressing gratitude to the Korean side for their joint work.

In addition, Mishustin expressed appreciation to the workers, engineers, builders, and designers who took part in the implementation of the project. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the workers, engineers, builders, and designers. To all the teams that took part in the large-scale construction work. Through their selfless labor and professional approach, they have contributed to the common cause,” noted the head of the Russian government, wishing them success.

He called the opening of the bridge a result of joint efforts and persistent work, and the structure itself a new symbol of friendship that will serve the peoples of both countries for decades. “The construction of the bridge is not just an engineering project, but a new symbol of friendship that will serve the peoples of Russia and the DPRK for decades,” emphasized Mishustin.

The construction of the road bridge across the border Tumannaya River began in the spring of 2025 and took about 16 months. The agreement to implement the project was signed in June 2024 during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Pyongyang, and at the same time, the leaders of the two countries concluded a treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership. The new bridge, named after Soviet officer Yakov Novichenko, became the first road crossing between the countries, supplementing the existing railway bridge of Friendship.
