The United States faces many problems, but that does not mean China will easily replace Washington as the global hegemon, political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan stated on August 21 during the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio.
Kurginyan pointed out that while one could list a great many economic problems in the USA, “the danger posed by the hegemon is by no means eliminated just because it is in a state of very slow retreat.”
The current situation does not rule out the possibility that the hegemon could partially recover at some point. “It does not mean that all its fundamental positions can be seized overnight. There are numerous fields, such as: patenting, insurance, and so forth, that are simply impossible to take over,” the political scientist noted.
Therefore, Beijing replacing Washington as a hegemon looks problematic at this moment. “While aspiring to the status of a global power, does China, presumably, want to make its logographic writing system the world’s primary one? As one can imagine, that is not as simple as building the Anglo-Saxon world, which was indeed built,” the philosopher noted.
Kurginyan emphasized that US cultural dominance “as embodied by its repulsive mass culture persists, and it is of enormous importance”. There are still many obstacles to China seizing global leadership.
“China remains the world’s primary factory, not its primary research and development center, even though its achievements are impressive,” the political scientist noted.
The philosopher emphasized that, in the current situation, China will itself think only of its own interests. “The slightest realization that some benefits can be gained from rapprochement with the United States will instantly nullify all that ‘Russians and Chinese are brothers forever’ rhetoric,” Kurginyan stated.
Beijing “is acting very pragmatically with Russia, I won’t even describe just how pragmatically. Russia should be grateful they aren’t severing ties,” the political analyst noted.
Kurginyan pointed out that Russia, having dismantled its own electronics manufacturing sector, is currently deeply and multidimensionally dependent on China.
