Firearms, explosives, and camouflage uniforms were seized from detained crew members of a US-registered speedboat that had opened fire on Cuban border guards, according to the press service of the island’s Ministry of the Interior.
The detainees were found to possess assault rifles, small firearms, explosive devices, body armor, optical sights, and camouflage uniforms.
On February 25, a US-registered speedboat entered Cuba’s territorial waters and opened fire on Cuban border guards. In response, the Cuban forces killed four of the attackers and wounded several others.
Among the border guards, the captain of the Cuban vessel was injured.
Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior reported that the attackers were natives of the island residing in the United States. Some of them had prior criminal convictions.
The attackers’ speedboat was registered in Florida. Ten people were on board.
According to Cuban authorities, the attackers intended to illegally enter the island to carry out terrorist activities. The identities of six surviving attackers and one of those killed have been established.
Another Cuban citizen was detained onshore; he had been sent from the United States to receive the group of attackers. He has already admitted his involvement in the activity.
