China and Russia must strengthen cooperation within the BRICS framework as well as the unity of developing countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on April 29 to journalists.
During a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the BRICS foreign ministers’ summit in Rio de Janeiro, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized that the unity and cooperation of BRICS countries are demonstrating increasing strategic importance.
“Russia and China, as founding members of BRICS, should enhance coordination and cooperation within the BRICS framework, and deepen the unity and cooperation of developing countries and emerging economies,” Wang Yi said.
He also highlighted the need for BRICS to intensify efforts toward building a more just and rational system of global governance.
