The United States and the EU have destroyed the “quartet” on the Middle East by trying to single-handedly introduce initiatives, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on September 9 at a meeting of the Strategic Dialogue of the Russian Federation and the Cooperation Council of Arab States of the Persian Gulf.
“The United States and the European Union have destroyed the quartet of multilateral international mediators – the so-called Middle East Quartet, which included Russia, the United States, the EU and the United Nations (UN),” the minister said.
According to him, Washington and Brussels are trying to put forward some proposals, but their initiatives are completely unsuccessful. The minister also noted that Russia and China regularly consult on the situation in the Middle East and other strategic issues.
Earlier, Beijing proposed an initiative to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Lavrov noted that this initiative is similar to Moscow’s efforts.
