Scholars of Russian Academy of Military Science explain why London wants to bring NATO troops into Ukraine

21.03.2024, Moscow.

The United Kingdom proposed using the highly maneuverable NATO forces to create a buffer zone around Kiev to send the released Ukrainian units to the front, scientists of the Russian Academy of Military Sciences Aleksander Bartosh and Anatoliy Letyago said in an article published March 21 in the journal Nationalnaya Oborona.

The United Kingdom proposes to send “large highly maneuverable NATO forces from the border areas of Romania and Poland” to Ukraine by May, the scientists said. They must create a buffer zone in the border area with Belarus and around Kiev.

The article’s authors note that Kiev will be able to send the released forces to the war zone. According to London’s assessment, this will undermine Russia’s offensive capabilities and force it to start negotiations.

Bartosh and Letyaga note that UK’s plan may not have the support of most NATO countries.

In late February, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Western countries had discussed the issue of sending troops to Ukraine and Paris did not rule out such an option.
