Journalist Patrik Baab: Ukraine’s shelling of Donbass turned its residents away from Kiev

02.03.2024, Berlin.

Ukraine has been alienating residents of Donbass since the coup in Kiev, journalist Patrik Baab told Die Junge Welt newspaper on March 1.

He said that during his trips to the Donetsk People’s Republic, he heard people’s indignation about shelling by Kiev.

“People in the Donbass essentially feel like Ukrainians, but as a result of the Maidan coup in 2014 and the subsequent shelling of the population of the federalist-oriented territories in the east, these people have turned more and more away from the central government in Kiev,” Baab said.

The journalist said that the government in Kiev acted on the orders of NATO and the European Union, which led to the secession of the DPR and LPR and their subsequent transfer to Russia.

“Some people told me, ‘Putin disappointed us, he should have come in 2014’,” Baab revealed.
