The third assault brigade of the Ukrainian armed units, deployed near Avdeevka to reinforce Ukrainian positions, is encircled in some parts, deputy commander of the brigade Rodion Kudryashov said, the Strana daily wrote on February 16.

At the same time, Kudryashov is trying to make optimistic statements in this regard, “The Russian military took control of the Zenit fortified area and planted their flag there, but they failed to gain a strong foothold there”.

Brigadier General Aleksandr Tarnavsky, commander of the Ukrainian armed units’ Tavriya strategic task force, also said that in Avdeevka, the planned provision of positions for units and maneuvering of troops to new positions are underway, and powerful fortifications are being prepared.

In addition, the commander of the third Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian armed units Andrey Biletsky said that the Ukrainian military “is forced to fight 360 degrees against new and new brigades that the enemy introduces.”

The day before, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council, said that there is a risk that Avdevka will fall under Russian control.

On the same day WordPress, citing the Ukrainian militants, wrote that a full retreat of the Ukrainian armed units from Avdeevka is a matter of time. The Avdeevka coke plant (part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Metinvest group), which was destroyed during the special operation, is likely to be the last stronghold of Ukrainian forces in Avdeevka.
