Iran is Russia’s natural ally in Middle East, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on February 6 on the program Conversation with a Sage on channel Zvezda.
According to the political scientist, many years ago he had a meeting with now prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu organized by a pro-Russian Israeli politician of Russian origin.
“That entire meeting in fact focused on the issue of Iran. And I firmly, as if I was repeating my key point, said, ‘Bibi (Benjamin – Rossa Primavera News Agency), please remember, we will never leave Iran. This is impossible. Iran will have no conflict with Russia, and all we can offer about it is to settle your relations with Iran, but not to worsen our relations with Iran. Your relations can change, but not ours. Our relations will only improve,’” Kurginyan told.
He explained that this happened in the Yeltsin period, who “always bowed and scraped before the US,” and Russia’s admission to NATO and many other things were under discussion.
According to Kurginyan, good relations between Russia and Iran are based, among other things, on the fact that Iran, in contrast to many other Russia’s neighbors, has no territorial claims to Russia.
“We will not discuss whether Iran is good or bad; it has no territorial claims to Russia. There might be something in Tajikistan, but it is now a thing of the past,” Kurginyan explained.
He also noted that Iran is a very ancient power, and this also affects the Russian-Iranian relations.
“Turkey is the Ottoman Empire etc., this is as late as the second millennium of the Christian era. But Iran has absolutely different roots,” the political scientist explained.
“There are some axes of common ground. Whatever they are, they are older that what we have on the screen of contemporary politics. In any event, Iran is Russia’s natural ally,” the analyst stressed.
Also, according to Kurginyan, Russia’s only way to the Indian Ocean and further is through Iran, and this is why the way to Transcaucasia is so important for Russia.
“This role of Iran for Russia is probably a concern for someone on the globe. Apparently, the configurations they would like to see should be built somewhat differently,” the leader of Essence of Time believes.
