ZDF: German tank brigade will not last a week in battles with Russian Armed Forces

15.02.2024, Berlin.

Less than a week of fighting with the Russian army will be able to withstand a German tank brigade, the ZDF television channel informed on February 15, citing an internal German Defense Ministry report on the 21st Tank Brigade.

The document notes that “due to limited logistical capabilities, the brigade can only survive a very intense battle for a limited time, about four to five days.”

ZDF notes that this tank brigade will be the first unit to be re-formed under the “medium force” concept. It implies that three brigades will be formed, which will be equipped with fast-wheeled vehicles instead of slow-tracked tanks.

This will make the brigade much more mobile. It is assumed that it can travel 400 kilometers per day.

At the same time, the Bundeswehr is already facing problems with the “medium force” concept. New vehicles are arriving to the troops too slowly. At the current rate, the brigades will be fully ready only by 2030.

For reasons of economy, units will not be fully equipped with the new RCH 155 wheeled howitzers. A substantial part of the combat vehicles will be slow-tracked self-propelled vehicles from 2000.
