Many perceive the conflict in Ukraine as a way to earn money at the expense of budget funds, the head of the State Audit Service of Ukraine Alla Basalaeva said, the Ukrainskiye Novosti wrote on February 13.
According to the official, this has manifested itself in an increase in the number of violations detected in public procurement over the past two years. She emphasized that after the start of Russia’s military special operation, “many people perceived the war as a way to earn money at the expense of public funds.”
“In 2021, state auditors inspected more than 1.5 thousand facilities and found violations that led to losses worth 14.75 billion hryvnias ($392 million). In 2022, we inspecte just under a thousand facilities, but the amount of losses reached almost 100 billion hryvnias ($2.6 billion). And in 2023, based on the results of the audit of more than a thousand objects, losses have already been recorded for 211 billion hryvnias ($5.6 billion),” the head of the Ukrainian State Audit Service said.
