French farmers began blockading cities, tired of living in poverty

29.01.2024, Paris.

The inability to live on €300 a month while constantly fighting a large number of administrative bans was the main reason for farmers to start blocking roads and cities, TF1 Info wrote on January 29.

Striking farmers have again parked their tractors on the A450 highway. Many of them got up at 2 a.m. to be with their comrades at 5 a.m. And they are prepared to go all the way to the end to ensure they stop being hampered by different standards. Farmers want only one thing – to work in peace, as one of them emphasized.

“They tell us: you have to be competitive. And at the same time, a lot of imported products are coming into France, produced according to different standards than the French,” the strikers testified.

In their opinion, it is necessary to stop making different demands on them from the European ones. It is necessary to equalize them in order to restore equality. And this alone would be a big step on the part of the executive branch to improve the situation of local agricultural producers. In addition, it is necessary to eradicate the constant interference in the affairs of farmers, when everyone does it.

“Today, when there is a law on the inadmissibility of using soil for purposes other than agricultural, a young farmer when moving to a new place can no longer build housing next to his farm building. Does he have to live 20-30 kilometers away and travel by car to his farm every day?” one of the farmers wondered.

At the same time, there was a question regarding the low wages. According to the young father, who receives €300 a month, it was difficult for him to explain to his 7-year-old son why it was so low. Therefore, as he emphasized, he does not want to live in the shit he is in anymore. He is willing to block roads and cities for as long as it takes to change his life for the better, as the young farmer commented.
