The Syrian Arab Republic and the People’s Republic of China issued a joint declaration regarding the establishment of a strategic partnership, China Central Television reports on September 22, following the summit meeting between the countries’ leaders in Hangzhou.
It is also reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad signed several documents on bilateral cooperation, in particular on the mutual development of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.
The Syrian President will stay in Hangzhou until September 23. He will take part in the opening ceremony of the 19th Summer Asian Games.
This is the Syrian president’s sixth international visit since the start of the Syrian civil war. Bashar al-Assad paid his first state visits to Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
