Brazilian president says BRICS needs its own currency instead of the dollar

30.05.2023, Brasilia.

The BRICS countries need to introduce their own currency instead of the dollar, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said on May 29 at a joint press conference with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro.

The Brazilian leader said that the problem could be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the South American leaders, which will be held soon in the Brazilian capital.

“My dream is that we have a currency so that our countries can do business without depending on the dollar,” the politician said of the prospects for the BRICS countries.

Lula da Silva reasoned that the USA is using its monopoly power in printing international currency to compete unfairly in the economic struggle.

After the meeting with Lula da Silva, Nicolas Madura expressed his desire for Venezuela to join the BRICS.
