Austria refuses to train the Ukrainian military to operate Leopard 2 tanks

Austria will not provide its training grounds to train the Ukrainian military to operate German Leopard 2 tanks, Austrian Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner said, the ORF TV channel informed on February 13.

Tanner pointed out that Austria retains its neutral status, which is stipulatted by the country’s constitution. She stressed that it was the sovereign decision of each state to help Ukraine or not.

It is noted that the Austrian army has one battalion of Leopard 2 tanks, consisting of 48 such tanks.

At the end of January, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany had decided to send Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev, as well as to allow other countries to re-export their tanks to Ukraine.
