Poland seeks US support to receive reparations from Germany

04.01.2023, Warsaw.

Poland wants US support to receive reparations from Germany for damages caused in World War II, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mulyarchick said in an interview with the PAP agency on January 3.

“I am preparing for a visit to the USA, where I intend to meet with congressmen, senators and polonia (the Polish diaspora) on the issue of reparations from Germany,” Mulyarchyk said.

Earlier, the Polish authorities demanded from Germany 6.2 trillion zlotys (about $1.3 trillion) as reparations for the damage caused to the country during World War II.

The German government said it had no intention to pay Poland. The German authorities believed that they had paid enough reparations, and there was no reason to question Poland’s refusal of reparations in 1953.
