02.05.2022, Donetsk.

Dozens of human bodies were found under the rubble of the Mariupol drama theater building, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushylin said at a briefing in Donetsk on May 2, the Donetsk News Agency (DAN) reported.

Pushilin said that he hoped very much that reports of numerous victims of the explosion of the theater building were untrue, but that “several dozen bodies have already been found. The removal of the rubble continues.”

He said that unexploded shells and “a number of other technical issues” are making it difficult to remove the rubble. Pushilin told journalists that employees of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Donetsk People’s Republic and employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia are currently working at the site.

The building of the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater in Mariupol was completely destroyed in mid-March as a result of its explosion committed by Ukrainian Nazis. The Nazis had organized one of their strongholds with firing points in this building, where the militants of the Azov battalion had also gathered and forcibly detained civilians. According to reports, several hundred civilians may have been in a bomb shelter built under the theater building.
