DPR: The May 2 tragedy in Odessa will be investigated after the Russian army takes the city under control

02.05.2022, Donetsk.

The crime committed by Ukrainian nationalists in Odessa on May 2, 2014, will be investigated after Russian troops march in the city, DPR People’s Council deputy Vladislav Berdichevsky said on May 2, RIA Novosti reported.

“I think, all this will be certainly investigated as soon as the Russian troops take Odessa and the Odessa region under their control. Sooner or later investigations will be carried out and those responsible will be punished,” Berdichevsky said.

He noted that according to available data, some of those responsible for the Odessa tragedy belonged to Azov (organization banned in Russia) and have already been killed.

After the 2014 coup d’etat in Ukraine, anti-Maidan activists in Odessa organized a tent camp on Kulikovo Field in protest. The nationalists trashed the camp, and anti-Maidan activists were forced to take shelter in the Trade Union House.

However, the nationalists set the building on fire. Some people were burned alive, and many who jumped out of the windows were beaten in the street. The nationalists also used firearms.

According to official data, 48 people died that day, and more than 250 were injured to varying degrees of severity. Over eight years the Kiev authorities never fully investigated the tragedy or punished those responsible for it.
