Mexico explains why it will not support sanction war against Russia

Mexico wants to keep the option for dialogue with all the sides to the conflict, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on March 1 at a press conference in the National Palace.

“We’re not going to take any kind of economic reprisal because we want to have good relations with all the governments in the world, and we want to be able to talk with the parties in conflict,” the Mexican leader said.

He noted that many sanctions have already been imposed on Russia by various countries, and he confirmed that the Mexican government is not responsible for the use of these measures. The best thing to do during a conflict is to “promote dialogue,” López Obrador stressed.

Previously, Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay refused to support the West’s sanction war against Russia. President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro noted that NATO provoked the Ukrainian events.

Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba supported Russia, saying that Russia has the right to defend itself from the pressure of the alliance.

On February 24, President of Russia Vladimir Putin initiated a military operation in Ukraine. As he said, the republics of Donbass addressed Russia for help after a dramatic intensification of attacks by Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that Russia would not attack Ukrainian cities, but it would use precision weapons to destroy military infrastructure. The announced purpose of the operation is demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
