The winner in a limited military conflict in Ukraine can hardly be predicted, but NATO can lose in a conflict with Russia, said corresponding member of the Academy of Military Sciences, director of the Center for Military Forecast Anatoly Tsyganok to Rossa Primavera News Agency.
“Because over the last 20 years NATO has only fought against weak enemies like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria. They are accustomed to making bomb strikes. But the situation is absolutely different here. Firstly, anti-aircraft systems will not allow any air missions. Secondly, electromagnetic warfare systems will prevent any control of the armed forces,” the expert explained the reasons why he believes Russia can win in such a confrontation.
According to Tsyganok, President of Russia Vladimir Putin is now taking a diplomatic pause before recognizing the DPR and the LPR. The expert noted that if Russia’s diplomatic efforts fail to reach de-escalation in Ukraine, sovereignty of the DPR and the LPR will have to be recognized, which would allow Russia to take measures to defend its citizens in Donbass, including through supplies to necessary defensive weapons.
“If this fails, too, then military operations will be the last option” of Russia’s answer to NATO.
According to the analyst, if under NATO’s pressure Ukraine initiates a military conflict with Russia, it is likely to lose part of its territories as it happened to Georgia in 2008.
“This is why the president of Ukraine [Vladimir Zelensky] almost repeats the destiny of [ex-president of Georgia Mikhail] Saakashvili. I think if Ukraine is ruled by the USA it will lose part of its territory,” the expert concluded.
On February 14, the Russian State Duma’s Committee for the Commonwealth of Independent States supported the drafts of Duma’s addresses to President Putin to recognize the independence of the DPR and the LPR.
According to the Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, this matter will be considered at a plenary meeting to the lower chamber of the parliament on February 15.
