Russia and China use rubles and yuan for 90% of mutual payments, the transition to national currencies was timely and gave impetus to trade relations between the countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on May 16.

“Over the past five years, despite the consequences of the pandemic and despite some actions that are aimed at curbing our development, some actions by third countries, trade turnover between Russia and China has been increasing,” he said.

Putin described the pace at which trade between the countries is developing as good. He also mentioned 80 major joint investment projects in various spheres. The development of relations between Russia and China is in the interests of both countries, the president added.

Putin is in Beijing on an official visit, which will last until May 17. Earlier, Xi Jinping called the relations between Russia and China a benchmark of friendly relations between the states.
