If the Russian authorities lose trust due to pension reform and vaccination, anything will be able to collapse the state, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on August 31 in a new issue of The Meaning of the Game broadcast.
“This is when [if trust is lost] they [the authorities] will become unstable. And no one can tell for sure what will trigger instability in the context of significant mistrust. Because, if mistrust is very strong, and the process is diffuse, anything can become the trigger,” he explained.
The political scientist noted that even with 60-70% support at the elections, which is not at all guaranteed, the authorities can totally lose trust.
“Fundamental social sentiments regarding vaccination, pension reform etc. will be only indirect factors affecting the electoral outcome,” he stressed.
Kurginyan indicated that speculation about legitimacy, which is supposedly determined not only by electoral results, is popular in Russia.
“With years, I understand less and less what legitimacy is. My fault. I can deliver a course of lectures on this matter referring to the positions of all the wise men who talked about legitimacy, but this would not bring me any closer to a real practical understanding of the meaning of legitimacy for contemporary Russian society. In contrast, I understand very well the meaning of trust,” he said.
The leader of Essence of Time expressed confidence that social processes in Russia grow more irrational as the country “heats up.” This circumstance along with the authorities’ reluctance to take it into account is the main danger to the country.
Diffuse discontent over various domestic issues and processes continues to escalate, and only people’s trust to the authorities can save the country from destabilization in this context.
