Lugansk People’s Republic spokesman: Ukraine recruits Islamist mercenaries to Donbass

20.03.2020, Lugansk.

The Ukrainian military continues using Middle East mercenaries in the punitive operations in Donbass, the Chief of the People’s Militia Directorate of the Lugansk People’s Republic Yan Leshchenko said, LuganskInformCenter reported on March 20.

According to Leshchenko, two mercenaries from Middle East countries were killed and three heavily wounded while testing a multiple launch rocket system assembled from spare parts in the combat area.

He added that the Islamist mercenaries from Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (organization banned in Russia) were killed while attempting to install an improvised MLRS on a Humvee vehicle. The explosion killed not only the Islamists but also Ukrainian army servicemen, including three recruits.

“Because of the low manning level of the Ukrainian army and the poor combat training level of its personnel, the Ukrainian government continues recruiting mercenaries from the Middle East countries to the area of the punitive operations,” Leshchenko noted.
