Donbass and Ukraine begin prisoner exchange near Gorlovka

29.12.2019, Gorlovka.

The Donetsk (DPR) and Lugansk (LPR) People’s Republics and Ukraine began a prisoner exchange near Gorlovka, the DPR ombudswoman Daria Morozova said on December 29, Donetsk News Agency reports.

Ukraine must transfer 87 persons to the People’s Republics, while Donbass’ representatives are to return 55 persons. The exchange will take place on the contact line, located on the north of Gorlovka, near the same name checkpoint that is temporally not active.

Persons retained by the DPR, which will be later exchanged on Donbass citizens, have been already brought to the gray zone, Morozova says.

The agreement on a prisoner exchange was reached on December 9, 2019, during the Normandy Format talks. The parties to the conflict were obliged to proceed to the prisoner exchange before New Year.

As Rossa Primavera News Agency reported earlier, according to the DPR ombudswoman, Ukraine had put obstacles complicating a possible prisoner exchange. However, the People’s Republics and Ukraine succeed to reach the finish line in this process.
