Bandera Nazi Monument in Lvov region rooted out, loaded on a truck and carted away

23.08.2019, Lvov.

A local Jewish community in Ukraine dismantled the Cross commemorating the executed Bandera Nazis, the leader of the Conservative movement Bogdan Khodakovsky wrote on his Facebook page on August 21.

As written in the Facebook post, in the town of Sambor in the Lvov region, a nationalist battalion militant, who appeared at the site of the dismantling, caught the act of “vandalism” on video.

In the video posted on the Facebook page, one can see six people digging out a cross erected at the site where the militants of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army* (organization banned in Russia) were executed during the Great Patriotic War.

The Bandera Nazis “sacred object” was rooted out together with its foundation using a manipulator and loaded on a truck.

The nationalist attempting to stop this action was nearly stabbed with a trenching shovel by one of the people participating in the dismantling.

An opinion has been expressed on one of the Lvov online portals that the left-wing nationalist organization Autonomous Resistance assists the Jewish community.

The Jewish settlement in Sambor originated in the 15th century. The first mention of Jews in this region dates back to 1447. During the Great Patriotic War, on July 1, 1941, the Nazi-led local nationalists undertook a Jewish pogrom and killed between 50 and 120 people according to different sources.

Editorial comment

The connection of the Jewish community with the Autonomous Resistance seems to be doubtful as the later supports the Bandera Nazis. The Autonomous Resistance took part in the coup d’etat in Ukraine in 2014, as well as in the punitive operation against the DPR and LPR. Moreover, this organization participates in the torchlight processions together with the Ukrainian Bandera Nazis.

* Ukrainian Insurgent Army (organization banned in Russia) fought Soviet troops alongside German Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. It is also responsible for the genocide of Poles in Volhynia in 1943.
