American volunteer and journalist Russell Bentley claimed dead in DPR

American Russell Bentley, who disappeared more than a week ago, has been claimed dead, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan said on April 19.

Russell Bentley, a volunteer from the United States with the call sign “Texas”, who had been participating in combat operations in the Donetsk People’s Republic since 2014, died in Donetsk.

“Russell Bentley, aka Texas, a true American, from Texas, died in Donetsk. Fought there for ours. Collaborated with our Sputnik. Terrible. Rest in peace,” Simonyan wrote on her Telegram channel.

On April 12, the Sputnik agency reported that the correspondent was missing. It specified that Bentley had Russian citizenship. The Interior Ministry of the Donetsk People’s Republic said that his whereabouts were not known since April 8.

Texas explained that he was forced to come to Donbass from the United States, as he was admired by the courage and resilience of the locals. The correspondent repeatedly expressed support for the Russian special military operation in Ukraine.
