Thirteen Ukrainian servicemen died, another 25 were injured when they attempted to breach Donetsk People’s Republic positions in Avdeevka region on May 29, DPR Deputy Operations Commander Eduard Basurin claimed today during his daily briefing in Donetsk News Agency.
“Our recon registered uncoordinated actions between ‘Right Sector‘ militants and servicemen of the 16th battalion of 58th brigade, as a result of which 13 Ukrainian servicemen died and over 25 were injured,” Deputy Commander said.
He added that both 16th battalion military and “Right Sector” militants suffered losses. Basurin added that one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces trucks which transported the deceased blew up on a mine. “Another Ukrainian soldier died,” Basurin added.
Ukrainian army made their first attempt to attack positions of DPR between Avdeevka and Yasinovataya on May 26, 2016. Back then, according to DPR Defense Ministry, six Ukrainian soldiers and two DPR servicemen died. Active confrontation in Avdeevka area started on March 7, 2016, when the Ukrainian army captured a part of the territory in the buffer zone near the strategic Donetsk-Gorlovka road and started shelling civilian vehicles. DPR authorities shut down the road traffic along this road and enhanced the defense of the Yasinovataya checkpoint.
