Students in Kiev beat up their classmate because “Russian” cartoon

22.04.2024, Kiev.

In Kiev, students brutally beat their 13-year-old classmate, suspecting him of watching a cartoon in Russian, Ukrainian publication Strana wrote on April 22.

The incident took place in Kiev school № 81. According to the mother of the injured child, he was beaten because his classmates thought he was watching a cartoon in Russian. The child was seriously injured and underwent surgery.

The victim’s mother claims that her son hid the incident from her for ten days, and she accidentally discovered the injuries. According to her, the child was intimidated by a teacher’s assistant.

This case is another example of the aggressive derusification that has been carried out in Ukraine in recent years. In 2022, Ukraine passed a law banning Russian music in the media and public places, as well as tours by Russian performers. A ban on the import and distribution of books from Russia was also introduced.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly said that Russia wants to see Ukraine as a friendly country where the Russian language and Russian culture are not banned.
