The government of Senegal was surprised by Ukraine’s support of the actions of Tuareg rebels and members of the Islamist group “Islamic Victory,” who carried out a terrorist attack in northern Mali against the armed forces of that country, RIA Novosti wrote on August 3, citing a statement from the Senegalese Foreign Ministry.

“The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal was surprised by the publication of a propaganda video on the Facebook page [organization banned in Russia] of the Ukrainian embassy,” the statement reads.

It pointed to the ambassador’s comment with “clear and unconditional support for the terrorist attack on July 25 and 27 in northern Mali.”

“This led to significant losses among their [military – Rossa Primavera News Agency] ranks,” the statement noted.

In addition, the Ukrainian ambassador to Senegal, Yuriy Pivovarov, was summoned to the country’s Foreign Ministry.

“[He] was reminded of the need for moderation, a balanced position, and adherence to the policy of non-interference as stipulated by his mission,” the Senegalese diplomatic agency emphasized.

At the end of July, fighters from the Wagner PMC fell into an ambush near the city of Kidal in Mali. They suffered heavy losses. On July 30, the Senegalese portal Senenews reported that the authorities of Mali and Mauritania are investigating the training of terrorists by Ukrainian instructors.
