12.08.2023, Niamey.

Thousands of Niger’s residents gathered near the French military base near Niamey, where 1,500 French military personnel are stationed, demanding they leave the country, RFI reported on August 11.

The protesters gathered at the entrance to the military base, occupied by French army units. They shouted slogans hostile to France, demanding that the French soldiers leave the territory of Niger.

The protesters also spoke out against the intentions of the West African Economic Bloc (ECOWAS) to intervene in Niger to restore deposed President Mohamed Bazoum to power.

Some demonstrators carried Russian flags.

Toward evening, the rally was dispersed without violence or disorder, RFI reported.
