The problem of falling birth-rate cannot be considered apart from the key issue of Man and the choice of his development strategy in the future: the world urgently needs a humanistic concept of a new Man, i.e. a concept that would release his reserved capabilities, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on August 7 on the Conversation with a Sage program on Radio Zvezda.
According to the political scientist, a new human existence needs to be proposed, both in theory and practice, in a world where stake is now made not on homo sapiens but on machine and artificial intelligence. “The word ‘humanism’ must not be said with a grin… the idea of human ascension will never be gone,” Sergey Kurginyan believes.
“The challenge is great… It is not about philosophy. Rather, it is about anthroposophy, or, as it might be called, theosophy. About how Man can learn to use his hidden resources, which are huge. Man… uses at most half per cent of his reserved capabilities. Indeed, it is not clear what he needs these capabilities for if he uses them so little. So, his potentials need to be released. Yes, they are connected with body, and in any event they are aimed into this idea of transfiguration,” the political scientist comments.
According to him, for the humanity as a whole and for our country in particular, the key issues now are those of the soil of meaning and spirit, i.e. of the restoration of value-based efficacy (which is impossible when historical wholeness of people is lacking), rise of vital power, creation of a new human collectivism, and the Russians possess certain experience of creating such a collectivism in the form of the Soviet power.
“What kind of demography can we talk about while vital power is falling so much? Every time I hear a conversation of our politicians about managing the demographic crisis I feel that this pragmatic mind equalizes people and cows or alike… ‘Better cow houses, better food, another way of coupling…’ But these are humans! And you cannot avoid the problem of love and vital power if you want to achieve anything,” Sergey Kurginyan said.
He expressed confidence that technocrats and pragmatists cannot see any difference between the demographic problem of Man and cattle numbers. They speak the language of cattle numbers using the terms of cattle numbers, Kurginyan notes. But it is about people whose initial internal potential suffers instant dissociation in the current environment. Man, the analyst believes, must be considered in all his complexity to regain his potential through wholeness, integration, entirety, i.e. exactly the things that have always been Russia’s major asset.
Sergey Kurginyan stresses that we must use machine and technology while making our stake on Man, on a new ascension combining all our highest dreams that have always been the essence of Russia’s life. This is how we must face the challenge of “transhumanism” (technological dehumanization), i.e. “a challenge of much worse kinds of fascism than Hitler’s one,” the leader of Essence of Time concluded.
