Unmanned systems regiments have already been created as part of the Russian Navy, stated the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Aleksandr Moiseyev, on July 26 during a broadcast on the Zvezda television channel.
“We established unmanned systems regiments. They already exist. That is, these are not just some plans, this is the objective reality of today. Precisely regiments of unmanned systems within the structure of the fleets,” emphasized Moiseev.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, such regiment was, for example, created within the Northern Fleet on July 1. It has already been provided with all necessary weapons.
Moiseyev also said that the current structure of the fleets includes three divisions, two of which are surface divisions and one is a submarine division.
Next year, a similar task is planned to be accomplished in the Pacific Fleet, added the Commander-in-Chief.
Last November, the creation of unmanned systems troops in the Armed Forces of Russia was reported by the deputy head of the new branch of the military Colonel Sergey Ishtuganov. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense showed the emblem of the new branch of the military.
On May 9, 2026, servicemen of the unmanned systems troops marched across Red Square for the first time during the parade marking the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In November 2024, President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff were developing the frameworks for creating unmanned systems troops. Later, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov announced their formation in the third quarter of 2025.
