Cubans at mass rally voice support for the Revolution and its leader Raúl Castro

Thousands of Cubans gathered at the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribune in Havana to reject the attempt by Donald Trump’s administration to prosecute leader Raúl Castro, oppose the US economic blockade, and reaffirm their support for the Cuban Revolution, Prensa Latina wrote on May 22.

In this way, they responded to a call made by the Young Communist Tribune together with mass organizations, students, and youth movements, also aimed at strengthening national unity and supporting the government’s recent statement.

“On the 95th birthday of the General of our Army, the Cuban people affirm that neither threats, nor blockade, nor energy blockade, nor false accusations will be able to break the will of an entire people in defense of its revolution,” reads the text distributed throughout the island.

The appeal was supported by party and government authorities, including President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel, who condemned the aggression against the Cuban leader and invited citizens to a large rally at the Anti-Imperialist Platform.

In his message on the social network X on Thursday, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed the country’s commitment to defending its heroes and national history in response to what he called a new aggression by the historical enemies of the nation.

The heroes of our homeland will not be disrespected; our history and traditions will not be offended without a response. Not in Cuba,” Díaz-Canel emphasized.

He also noted that despite everyday hardships and shortages caused in particular by the US blockade, the Cuban people had managed to overcome difficulties and preserve unity in the face of attempts to prosecute the leader of the revolution in United States courts.

“This new aggression has united us even more and elevated the honor, dignity, and anti-imperialist spirit of a people already recognized worldwide for their brave resistance to any form of subordination to the empire,” he stressed.

The head of state concluded his message with a call for public mobilization, “The Army General is Cuba, and Cuba is respected. See you tomorrow at the Anti-Imperialist Tribune,” inviting citizens to participate in the rally to protest against the US action and to support Cuban Revoltuion.

This statement reaffirms the Cuban government’s historical practice of rejecting any attempts to put its leaders on trial outside the country.
